Get off the beaten path on this 12 day combination mobile camping safari. Highlights include camping in the Serengeti as near as possible to the “great migration”. Visiting bushman near Lake Eyasi, the elephants of Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Crater and Maasai guided walks. The camp crew moves with the safari and you stay in large walk-in tents with full bedding and ensuite bathrooms. In the dinning tent your cook serves wonderful 3-4 course meals each evening.

Day 1 – Arrive Arusha
Arrive into Kilimanjaro International Airport today. After clearing customs you will be met and driven to the Arumeru River Lodge, a luxury lodge set in lush tropical gardens with views of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru. The grounds cover 12 acres bordering the Arumeru River. The main building houses the lounge and bar areas, reception, and a boutique. A terraced restaurant with spectacular views of the overlooks the tropical gardens and a large swimming pool. There are 20 spacious comfortable rooms with en suite bathrooms, designed and decorated in harmony with the main building where the accent is on traditional eco-friendly African architecture.

Day 2 – Arusha/ Tarangire National Park
After breakfast you and rest of your group will depart for the private tented camp situated along the boundary of Tarangire National Park. The afternoon will be spent on a guided hike of the area, having the opportunity to visit with the “local” tribes and get a feeling for the beauty and culture of Tarangire. Hilltops in the area offer astounding views down into the river, which provides the only permanent water supply in Maasai land. The area supports a great diversity of wildlife, including giraffe, buffalo, lesser kudu, eland, oryx and zebra. Lion, leopard and cheetah are also present in the area. Up to 6.000 elephants inhabit Tarangire in the dry season.

Day 3 – Tarangire National Park
Depart on an all day game drive in the park, stopping for a picnic lunch and returning to camp in the late afternoon.

Day 4 – Lake Eyasi
Today you depart for Lake Eyasi with picnic lunches. After breakfast you’ll drive across the floor of the Great Rift Valley through Mto wa Mbu. After climbing the Rift Valley escarpment you will reach the village of Karatu where you’ll take a rough road to Lake Eyasi. You will spend the remainder of the day exploring on foot this rugged landscape, which is still inhabited by a small group of Bushmen: The Hadzabe or Watindiga, who still live in bands, hunting with bows and arrows; gathering roots, tubers and wild fruits, just as they did thousands of years ago.
Your stay here will be at Kisima Ngeda Tented Camp. situated directly on the shore of Lake Eyasi. The camp is set in a natural palm and acacia forest with a colossal rock as a backdrop and a natural spring nearby. The camp itself consists of six tents built on permanent platforms with views of the lake, an open dining room and bar, as well as a platform hidden in the reeds next to the spring. Each tent has an ensuite bathroom with flush toilets and hot running water. Furniture and bedding is comfortable and in keeping with the rustic and understated look of the Camp. Lighting is supplied by a generator until the daytime.

Day 5 – Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast you’ll depart lake Eyasi into the lush foothills and proceed to the rim of Ngorongoro for a hike and tour of the area, returning to camp for lunch. The remainder of the day can be spent hiking or relaxing at the camp. Or upon request, you can visit a Maasai Village in the area.

Day 6 – Ngorongoro Crater
Today you take the full day to visit Ngorongoro Crater, a World Heritage Sight and often called the 8th Wonder of the World, Ngorongoro is a sunken caldera , 10 by 12 miles in diameter. Animals are found throughout the year due to the permanent availability of grass and water. Ngorongoro is one of the most spectacular game haunts in Africa, and contains an impressive variety of wildlife including black mane lion, the highly endangered black rhino; herds of wildebeest, zebra, elephant, and hippo. You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch within the crater, returning to our private camp in time for a relaxing dinner.

Day 7 – Serengeti National Park – Central Serengeti
After breakfast, you depart for the Serengeti, stopping along to way to visit Olduvai Gorge. This is where the Leakey’s discovered the remains of Homo Erectus, bringing crucial understanding to the study of the evolution of man. Serengeti is perhaps the most famous wildlife sanctuary in the world, and with good reason. During the migration, literally hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebra can be seen making their way across this magical plain.
Your first night will be at the Serengeti Sopa Lodge, located in the central portion of the park. This luxury lodge, provides a nice stopping place and gives the camp crew a chance to resupply and set up your private Serengeti camp for the remainder of your stay.
After lunch, depart on an afternoon game drive, returning before dark.

Days 8/9/10/11 – Serengeti National Park – Migration Area
Today you depart for your private mobile camp which has been set up to be close to the “great migration”. You will have four more full days in this vast wilderness.

Day 12 – Serengeti / Arusha – Depart
Today you leave the Serengeti, spotting wildlife on the way and stopping for a picnic lunch. You will arrive in Arusha in the late afternoon.
